Green Team
The Relda Square Green Team is a volunteer-led committee dedicated to promoting sustainability, environmental awareness, and community beautification. The team works on initiatives that make our neighborhood greener and more eco-friendly, such as native planting projects, community clean-up events, and recycling education.
The Green Team meets weekly to plan and discuss ongoing projects, share ideas, and organize events that benefit both residents and the environment. All residents are welcome to get involved—whether you have a green thumb, a passion for sustainability, or just want to help make a positive impact.
If you're interested in joining the Green Team or have ideas for future initiatives, please reach out at reldasquare@gmail.com. Together, we’re building a cleaner, greener Relda Square!
In 2023, our HOA worked with the University of Maryland and its Sustainable Maryland program to establish a Green Team and adopt the Sustainable Maryland Residential Action Framework.
Read the Green Team Action Plan here.
Sponsored by the Chesapeake Bay Trust with support from the City of Gaithersburg, this framework will guide our community in developing awareness of our natural resources and how to best sustain them. This past year Sustainable Maryland has helped us develop a three-to-five-year Green Team Action Plan and resources to help us succeed. Some of the action items are as follows.
Remove Invasive Species: An ongoing project that has already begun.
Adopt and Promote Native Plant Landscaping Practices
Develop a Tree Canopy Plan: A tree inventory has already been completed.
Tree Planting: Many grant opportunities available.
